Queen, The Beatles and Bob Dylan: artificial intelligence makes disturbing portraits of rock stars
An artificial intelligence platform has made some fascinating and disturbing portraits of some rock artists such as Paul McCartney of The Beatles and Freddie Mercury of Queen.
During the last few months we have seen how Artificial Intelligence systems have advanced enormously. Particularly when it comes to these platforms making realistic portraits of fictional characters.
But now the next evolution has come: making images of living rock legends like Queen, The Beatles, Metallica, Bob Dylan and others.
Where the story that concerns us today is part of an experiment that looks almost like an anecdote, with peculiar results due to the way in which artificial intelligence has operated (or reasoned).
Since the generated images at first glance look quite realistic, but there are some details that seem to come out of a nightmare and therefore are frankly disturbing.
This is how rock is portrayed by this artificial intelligence
It turns out that Javier Hualde, editor of the RockFM site, has published an interesting article / gallery, where he has shared his experience experimenting with the artificial intelligence of Stable Diffusion’s Dream Studio.
It is a free and open source platform that allows you to create images from text entered into the system.
As we can see, it is very similar to other AIs that exist today on the web. However, the peculiarity of this session is that the publisher introduced requests for portraits of some living rock stars.
In the end, he obtained striking results, since the faces of the artists were at first impressive. Not only for its fidelity, but for some altered details. The best example is Paul McCartney of The Beatles:
Here we see how the rock legend has an absolutely deformed face, while he has three arms holding his iconic bass.
Seen from a distance the impression on the portrait could be positive, but up close it is like an object of bewilderment and panic.
In the case of Freddie Mercury, who occupies the cover image, we see the same way that his face is altered by having only half a mustache.
Elton John and Bob Dylan for their part look practically the same, as if it were almost a real photo passed through an Instagram filter.
Although we can’t say the same about Slipknot or Metallica, where the results still look disturbing. Here the gallery of horror:
